Hors d’oeuvre Jason Green Main Course John Ecob, John Illingworth, Richard Bircumshaw, Mike Steele, Andrea Ferguson, Luke Arnold The Shantymen with Steve Leyland, Rob Day Dessert Gone To The Dogs
Jason kicks off the evening with two of his original compositions, “Coming On Strong” and “Blazing Thunder”, accompanied by John Pape on a curious little electronic instrument named after its Russian inventor, Leon Theremin, which certainly arouses the interest of the onlookers.
It’s good to see John Ecob back down here. John Illingworth accompanies him on a fine cover of Bob Dylan’s “Things Have Changed” before John continues solo with a new self-penned composition, “Counting Out Stars” and his more familiar “A Long Way To Heaven”.
Next up is Richard, a worthy regular at the GEOM, who begins with his lovely instrumental dedication to his young daughter, “Emily’s Dance”. Richard follows with a nice cover of Gary Moore’s “Still Got The Blues” before finishing off a tidy set with John Martyn’s “Just Now”.
Mike then treats us to three enjoyable covers, “Three Steps To Heaven”, “She Never Spoke Spanish To Me” and Frankie Ford’s “Sea Cruise” before Andrea takes us to the break with “Mad World”, Big Yellow Taxi” and her own “Destiny Calling”.
There’s a choice of six guest ales to compliment the sandwiches and chips tonight including two from master brewers Hadrian and Border.
We start the second half with a surprise treat, for we have the privilege to welcome none other than the versatile blues singer/guitarist and harmonica wizard, Luke Arnold. John Illingworth accompanies Luke as he entertains us with three fine blues numbers.
Next up are the ever popular Shantymen who begin with John on guitar, Steve on bodrhan and Steve L. on snare drum. John then switches to his beautiful and ancient Appalachian dulcimer before the boys round off with a rousing sea shanty, “Haul Away Joe”.
Rob invites Luke to step into Easy’s shoes as accompanying harp player on his cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” and then continues solo with his country song, “Telling The Truth” and a fairly recent composition, “Can’t Be Seen Round Here Anymore”. It’s quite late now but there’s just enough time for the talented Anglo-Irish duo, Ian Enright and Dáithí Ó Geanainn to finish off the evening with three lively Irish numbers. |
